For parents and educators: The City Press

The City Press is World 13 of the City of Creativity, a free reading, writing and civic-learning adventure from United By Creativity, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Ms. Jordan, the City Press editor, gives children two assignments as junior reporters: the Mystery of the Missing Sunshine on Sunny Street, and Hunger in Our City at City Market.

What children practice

Recording observations and telling them apart from inferences; asking respectful interview questions; reading short informational texts, a price table and a map, and deciding what each one proves; sorting claims as supported, not supported or not enough evidence; comparing community solutions and recommending one with evidence; and writing, checking and publishing fair news articles with a headline, what happened, evidence with sources, a quotation and a conclusion.

Privacy

No accounts and nothing sent anywhere. Children's answers stay in their own browser, and they use a nickname or pen name only. All records in the game are made-up practice records.
