A safe, welcoming place to discover stories
The Global Library is a free reading experience from United By Creativity, a Kansas City 501(c)(3) nonprofit helping children build literacy and share their ideas.
What children can do
Browse approved stories, read illustrated pages, hear optional reading guidance, bookmark favorite pages, and start a private story draft. Reading is free and does not require an account.
How the Library Card works
The standalone Library Card asks for a nickname, not a child’s full name, email address, or password. Reading progress and drafts are saved in the browser on this device. Clearing browser data can erase them. Backup codes are copies of the saved information, not encrypted passwords. Keep them private and ask a grown-up for help moving a card between devices.
No reading records are automatically submitted to United By Creativity by this standalone Library. A future City integration may change how records are saved, and the live privacy notice must be reviewed if it does.
Young authors and permission
Children's stories do not appear publicly just because a child writes or saves a draft. A verified adult-permission and editorial-review process must happen before public publication, including checks for personal information, rights to illustrations, and age-appropriate content. The current Author’s Desk does not automatically publish or upload a story.
Creating and digital publication through the reviewed pathway are free. Optional print keepsakes are offered at minimum print cost; United By Creativity does not keep author royalties.
Reading access
The Library offers selectable page text with illustrations, keyboard-friendly buttons, adjustable reading text, and optional audio. Sound is off by default. We aim to support a wide range of readers, but screen-reader, caption, and mobile-device testing must be completed before accessibility conformity is claimed.
For parents and educators
Read alongside a child, discuss what happened in a story, and ask: What did you learn, imagine, or wish you could change? Teachers may use these prompts in literacy lessons. This page explains the current standalone experience; it is not a substitute for the final organization privacy policy, terms, accessibility statement, and safeguarding review.
